Whether you’re in a relationship or you’re all by your
lonesome, it’s always important to make sure to get in some quality alone time,
if you know what we mean (and we know you do).
We’ve talked about how sex is good for your health, and
getting in some quality masturbation time is just as important. Getting
yourself off can improve your happiness and confidence and lower your stress
levels. Even if you’re having getting it on regularly with a partner or two,
solo sexy time can be good for you and for your sex life. Here are a few
reasons why:
It makes you
responsible for your own happiness. If you’re the one making sure you
achieve orgasm it can be a reminder that you don’t have to rely on someone else
— for sexual satisfaction or just being happy with/about yourself.
It can decrease your
risk of prostate cancer. Multiple studies have shown that men who ejaculate
frequently — at least a few times a week — are less likely to get prostate
cancer.
It’s a natural pain
reliever. Orgasms increase blood flow to your brain and reproductive
organs, which helps soothe menstrual cramps and headaches.
It’s a fun stress
reliever. We’ve talked about it before when touting the benefits of sex, an
orgasm — with the flood of feel-good endorphins it releases in your body — is a
great (not to mention fun) way to relax. So the next time juggling everything
you have going on feels like it’s getting to be too much, go ahead and give
yourself a little satisfaction and buy yourself some relief.
It can help curb
cravings. On that same thread, those endorphins can help keep cravings for
comfort foods like sweets and carbohydrates at bay. Oxytocin levels can be
increased just through physical stimulation of the clitoris, vagina, cervix and
breasts, so you don’t even necessarily have to reach climax to reap those
benefits.
It can help you sleep
better. Take advantage of the relaxation getting off can bring and just
drift into a good night of sleep, which can lead to better cognitive function
and a positive mood.
It can help rev up your sex drive. We’ve
all been there — sometimes you’re just not in the mood, and sometimes it’s more
than just one night of being too tired to do anything but pass out in bed. It’s
also not uncommon to lose a little of that excitement when you’ve been with
your partner for a while. Masturbation can help put you in a sexy mood, and sometimes
both of you can benefit.
It feels good.
Really, despite all of the above, you don’t have to get any deeper than
“because I like it.”
