Sexy Sounds of Summer

Songs to Get You in the Mood
With Debbie Simon

Summer and road trip season are officially here, and what road trip is complete without the perfect summer soundtrack? Which set us to thinking, music is the perfect way to set the mood, no matter what you’re doing. So for your listening pleasure, we’ve rounded up some of the best songs to get you in the mood for some good old fashioned Olde Un Fun:

·         “Let’s Get it On” by Marvin Gaye: We decided to get the obvious out of the way first. It’s a classic sex-track pick for a reason folks.

·         “Take Me to Church” by Hozier: Because if sex doesn’t leave you feeling like you saw God, you’re doing it wrong.

·         “Harder to Breathe” by Maroon 5: Really Songs About Jane is a pretty good bedroom soundtrack all the way around, but their first single is a good way to start things off.

·         “La Tortura” by Shakira featuring Alejandro Sanz: Is there any sweeter torture than the anticipation of what it might be like with someone new?

·         “Bad Things” by Jace Everett: Bad things indeed. This bluesy track certainly brings a few fun options to mind.

·         “Wicked Game” by Chris Isaak: We wouldn’t mind playing wicked games with Chris Isaak — he’s more than welcome to fall in love with us instead of his beach buddy.

·         “Partition” by Beyonce: Queen Bey has given us many steamy tracks to get our pulses pounding, and this is a prime example.

·         “S&M” by Rihanna: Because you can’t turn back when being bad feels this good.

·         “I’ll Make Love to You” by Boys II Men: What can we say, these boys know what they’re doing.

·         “Justify My Love” by Madonna: Do we really have to explain this one?

Eat your way to better sex

With Debbie Simon

It’s fairly well known that oysters are an aphrodisiac, but our slimy little friends are not the only way you can use dinner to turn up the heat. Science has shown that there are a number of foods that can enhance sexual function and experience, either directly or indirectly.

Chocolate: As if we needed another excuse to indulge in this sweet treat. Chocolate contains phenylethylamine, a chemical compound that can produce feelings of euphoria and happiness by releasing dopamine, the neurotransmitter in the brain that surges during orgasms.

Avocados: Rich in unsaturated fats and low in saturated fat, avocados are good for your heart and your arteries, which means they help keep blood flowing in all the right places. And men with underlying heart disease are twice as likely to suffer from erectile dysfunction. Bring on the guacamole.

Watermelon: This summertime staple is high in potentially libido-boosting nutrients. A 2008 study by Texas A&M suggests the lycopene, citrulline and beta-carotene all found in watermelon helps relax blood vessels and provide a natural boost to your sex drive.

Almonds: Almonds are packed with minerals like selenium, vitamin E and zinc – which helps enhance libido and sexual desire. So the next time you’re blending up a smoothie, be sure to pour in a little extra almond milk, or better yet, make a handful of almonds your new go-to snack. Your partner will appreciate it.

Arugula: It may look like just an innocent, simple leafy green, but arugula has been touted as an arousal aid since the first century. Research has shown the trace minerals and antioxidants in this salad regular are essential for sexual health because they help block absorption of environmental contaminants thought to negatively impact libido. Just one more reason salad is always a good option.

Salmon: Salmon is rich in Omega-3 fatty acids, which are proven to regulate blood flow to the reproductive organs.

Ginseng: Particularly, Korean red panax ginseng, increases testosterone production, which in turn ups your sex drive. Studies have shown ginseng to be especially effective in treatment of erectile dysfunction.

Strawberries: Like avocados, strawberries help with good circulation. They’re also loaded with vitamin C, which can increase sperm count. Dip them in chocolate – another proven aphrodisiac, and you’ve got yourself a sex superfood.

Basil: This popular spice has anti-inflammatory properties that help with blood flow. Even better, it has been known to promote sexual desire in men just by smelling it, increasing blood flow and heart rate.
